East Broadway Rundown

Yasuhiro Fujioka told me the story behind the title of the Impulse! album East Broadway Rundown. The title refers to the lower east side street where Bennie Maupin's loft was located. Sonny and others often gathered there. Because the building had no elevator and the loft was on an upper floor, whenever someone new showed up, someone in the loft had to run down the stairs to let them in.
