Reunion Dues

My close friend, drummer Jeff Stitely, flew out from Chicago to hear the recording session with Elvin. He arrived after the first day. I played the rough mix of the first song we recorded, "Reunion Dues." Jeff and I had performed the song many times and recorded it in Chicago years before. After the melody, there was about eight bars of just the rhythm section. Jeff asked, "That's good. Who is the first soloist letting that space happen?"

"That was me," I replied.

Here's a picture from Jazz Alley when Jeff came out to play on my Jones for Elvin Volume 2 CD release. Jim Wilke recorded the evening which I released as Live!
